KSCA XI recovers well

BANGALORE: A slight drizzle and two quick wickets put KSCA XI on the backfoot against Australian Cricket Academy (ACA) on the opening day of the three-day fixture at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Thursday.

But a fine recovery for the third wicket between Sudhindra Shinde (52) and Deepak Chougule (39) which was followed by an unbroken 175-run partnership for the fifth wicket between captain Vijay Bharadwaj (80 batting; 189b, 9x4) and wicketkeeper batsman Thilak Naidu (84 batting; 167b, 11x4) ensured that the host KSCA XI reached 295 for four at stumps.

Openers Robin Uthappa (15) and Bharat Chipli (7) fell at the team score of 24 before the 96-run stand for the third wicket and again with the two batsmen falling at 120, off successive balls, it looked like KSCA would cave in before the experienced Bharadwaj and Thilak Naidu got together to stem the rot. Right-arm medium pacer M. Rearton was the most economical of the Aussie bowlers.

The scores: KSCA XI 295 for four in 88 overs (S. Shinde 52, Vijay Bharadwaj 80 batting, Thilak Naidu 84 batting) vs ACA. — Sports Reporter
