On a fast track

If acquisition of land is the most difficult part of a project, the Revenue officials and the Kerala State Transport Project divisional office here have pulled off a surprise.

Within seven months, land acquisition proceedings have been completed for a 26-km stretch of the 74-km Thalassery-Valavupara and Pilathara-Pappinissery roads under the World Bank-aided project. As the District Collector K.S. Srinivas says, this fast-track approach can be a model for future land-acquisition activities. MOHAMED NAZEER
