THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Convener of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) Paloli Mohammed Kutty has said that neither the CPI(M) nor its State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan had anything to fear about the ongoing investigation into the SNC Lavalin deal. Briefing reporters after the LDF State committee meeting here on Thursday, Mr. Kutty said the matter was discussed by the CPI(M) State secretariat. He said the then Chief Minister E. K. Nayanar and Power Minister Pinarayi Vijayan left for Canada only after getting the related proposals cleared by both the party secretariat and the LDF State leadership. He could not say for certain whether the matter was discussed formally by the then LDF State committee because he was not a member of that panel at the time, but he was certain that the matter was discussed and cleared by the party State secretariat, the LDF convener said. He challenged the Government to prove the charge that corruption involving crores of rupees had taken place in connection with the deal. The Government had the investigation machinery under its control and was free to complete the investigation at the earliest. Nobody would say that the CPI(M) and the LDF wwere to blame in any way after having heard what G. Karthikeyan, Power Minister in the Antony Cabinet, had stated in the Assembly. "It is not only that our hands are clean, our attempt was to protect the State's interests," he asserted. Mr. Kutty said it was nobody's case at the LDF panel meeting that the Opposition had erred in moving the no-confidence motion against the Oommen Chandy Government. The general impression was that the Opposition could present its case against the Government effectively, he added. He did not think that the 10 missions suggested by President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam for the development of Kerala were entirely new .
