Call to withdraw `new pension scheme'

Staff Reporter

MADURAI: The General Insurance Pensioners' Association has demanded the withdrawal of the `new pension scheme' as it aimed at completely taking away the `security' interest of pensioners.

A resolution passed at the ninth annual conference of the association here recently, with S. T. S. Thirumalainathan in the chair, has sought the withdrawal of the privatisation of pension fund management, "which involved thousands of crores of rupees."

Another resolution called for merger of the four general insurance companies into one monolithic public sector organisation and urged the government to give up the proposal to increase foreign direct investment to 49 per cent in the insurance sector.

The standing committee secretary of All-Insurance Employees Association, J. Gurumurthy, and the joint-secretary of the AIIPA, R. Vaikuntam, also spoke at the conference.

The following were elected office-bearers of the association on the occasion:

D. Sankaralingam (president), V. Jayaraj (secretary), R. V. Santharam (treasurer), M. Pushparajan (organising secretary), N. V. Krishnamurthy, S. Rajasekaran, V. V. Namby, and V. Selvaraj (vice-presidents), S. Palaninathan, A. Ramachandran and S. Rajendran (joint-secretaries).
