Students in a fix
Medical education is in a mess. And it is not an exaggerated statement. Even while the row between the junior doctors and the Government continues, the State health university has been tying itself into knots over the counselling as complaints galore from different sections. The last thing it wanted to happen at this juncture was the Shadan College affair. Let's take the Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's word that nothing was amiss about the college being granted a minority status after the medical counselling process was started by the university. But, what will happen to the seven students already admitted as the college management is now playing truant? Health university officials have done some double speak - warning the college of disaffiliation "as a last resort" and also promising to accommodate the students in other colleges! If past record is anything to go by, `minority' colleges, which did not follow regulations, have only managed to go scot-free.
