KOCHI: A workshop on e-payment of central excise and service tax was held at the Central Excise Commissionerate here on Wednesday. Ayyam Perumal, Central Excise Commissioner, inaugurated the workshop. Many banks, such as the Union Bank of India, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, UTI Bank, IDBI, State Bank of India and Punjab National Bank, have launched the e-payment facility. Customers of these banks who are assesses for central excise and service tax can pay them online using the Internet banking service. For making use the facility, the customers should apply in the prescribed application forms to the banks. No charges will be levied on this service, and e-payment can be made round the clock using the Internet banking facility. However, payments after 8 p.m. will be shown as made the next working day. On successful payment, assesses will get a receipt online for the tax payment, which they can save or print. The challan copies duly receipted and stamped will be sent to the assesses by the bank. Leena Wilson, Assistant General Manager, Union Bank of India, Mumbai, made a presentation on the facility. M.P. Varghese, Assistant General Manager, Union Bank of India nodal regional office, Ernakulam, and V. Suresh, Chief Manager, State Bank of Travancore, Poojappura, and Sunil, technical officer, State Bank of Travancore, Poojappura, spoke.
