Little scope to concede NGOs' demand: YSR
Staff Reporter
CUDDAPAH:
The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, said on Thursday that it would be difficult to concede the NGO demand for higher wages than that recommended by the Pay Revision Commission unless additional financial resources were raised without taxing people.
A 10 per cent wage hike recommended by the PRC entailed an additional burden of Rs. 1,200 crores on the exchequer, the Chief Minister told a press conference here. Under the Fiscal Management Bill, the Central Government imposed a condition that the State Government wipe out the present fiscal deficit of Rs. 1,452 crores within the next three years. The stipulation led to a precarious situation, wherein any further increase in fiscal deficit would result in the State foregoing Central grants of Rs. 1,600 crores, Dr. Reddy said.
