CHAMARAJANAGAR: People of Edakuria, an island in Sathegala hobli of Kollegal taluk, are facing a threat of flood with the release of water from the Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) and Kabini reservoirs.
Power supply disrupted
Power supply and telephone service have been disrupted following heavy rain and efforts by the district administration to shift people to a safe place have went in vain. Only some women and children have moved to relief camps at Sathegala. Three boats have been pressed into service. Eighty families live in Edakuria. Elders, who have refused to move to relief camps, said that though Edakuria was inundated 1962 and 1991, there was no casualty, and are ready to face the flood. With no let up in the flood situation in Kollegal taluk, the district administration on Tuesday commenced the process of evacuation with the help of personnel from the Police, Home Guards and Fire departments.
Washed away
Haystacks at Mullur, Dasanapura and Hale Hampapura villages in Kollegal taluk have been washed away in the flood. The headquarters assistant to the Deputy Commissioner, Ramu, the Kollegal Assistant Commissioner, Shankarappa, the Hanur special Tahasildar, Somaiah, the Superintendent of Police, Ravindra Prasad, and the Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies, K. Rameshwarappa, are monitoring the flood situation.
