NOISY PROTEST: Supporters of Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah taking out a rally in Mysore on Thursday protesting the ouster of their leader from the post of the Janata Dal (S) Legislature Party.
MYSORE: Hundreds of activists of the Federation of Backward Classes, Dalits and Minorities took out a rally here on Thursday to denounce the ouster of Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah from the post of the Janata Dal (Secular) Legislature Party leader. A large number of activists from different parts of Mysore district gathered in front of the Mysore Palace and took out a procession. They marched through D. Devaraj Urs Road, Narayan Shastri Road, Shivarampet and Sayyaji Rao Road before reaching K.R. Circle where they formed a human chain. During the procession, they raised slogans against former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and his son H.D. Kumaraswamy for the action against Mr. Siddaramaiah. Tension prevailed at K.R. Circle when the police refused permission to activists to burn an effigy of Mr. Deve Gowda. When the angry activists insisted on setting fire to the effigy, the police thwarted their attempt by snatching it. During the scuffle between policemen and activists, the effigy was destroyed and a couple of policemen were injured. Former zilla panchayat presidents K.C. Balaram and K. Nagaraj; zilla panchayat member K. Marigowda; former Mayors Narayan, Ananthu, Arif Hussain, M.S. Raju; Janata Dal (S) corporators Sulochana Aradhya, Renuka Devi, Kalavathi and many JD(S) leaders from Mysore district participated in the rally. The activists raised slogans against Hunsur MLA G.T. Deve Gowda who has identified himself with the H.D. Deve Gowda camp. In Nanjangud, a large number of activists of the federation took out a procession from Kanakadasa Vidyarthi Nilaya to Hullahalli Circle to condemn the ouster of Mr. Siddaramaiah. The activists shouted slogans against Mr. Deve Gowda and staged a rasta roko near Huhahalli Circle. The federation has called for a bandh in K.R. Nagar on Friday to condemn the action against Mr. Siddaramaiah. The convenor of the federation's K.R. Nagar unit, Rizwan, said Mr. Deve Gowda is ruining the party by only promoting the political career of his sons. Meanwhile, leaders of the Vokkaliga community belonging to different political parties came together under the Vokkaligara Yuva Vedike and took exception to the targeting of their community by the supporters of Mr. Siddaramaiah. The BJP corporator and leader of the Opposition in the Mysore City Corporation, Nagendra, the Mysore City Lorry Owners' Association representative, Kodandaramaiah, and other leaders gathered at the Chamundi Guesthouse in morning before staging a protest near Maharani's College. They blamed Mr. Siddaramaiah and former Minister H. Vishwanath of practising caste politics.
