MANGALORE: The Dakshina Kannada district Fast Track court here has sentenced Sebastian D'Souza, accused in an attempt to murder case registered by Ullal Police, to three years rigorous imprisonment and charged a fine of Rs. 3,000. Sebastian D'Souza had reportedly tried to stab his brother, Illyas, with whom he had a dispute over ancestral property at their house at Adamkudru in Jeppina Mogaru village under Ullal Police Station limits. Sebastian asserted that he should inherit the property and the house, and the brothers regularly fought over the issue. On April 27, 2003, Sebastian reportedly stabbed Illyas with a knife and left him on the floor of the bathroom, bleeding. Illyas was taken to the hospital by Leo D'Souza, their neighbour. Ullal police had registered a case of attempt to murder against Sebastian, based on a complaint from Shalet, wife of Illyas and subsequently submitted the chargesheet before the courts. The judge of the Fast Track court also directed Sebastian's wife, who goaded her husband to carry out the act, to pay a fine of Rs. 2,750.
