UDUPI: : The Udupi Chamber of Commerce and Industry has welcomed the power purchase agreement between the Government and Nagarjuna Power Corporation Ltd. (NPCL) to establish a power project in Udupi district. In a press release issued here on Wednesday, the secretary of the Chamber, K. Surendra Nayak, said that though Udupi district has all basic infrastructure, it faces a power shortage. Many small-scale industries have had to shut down for lack of power, he said. Mr. Nayak added that many information technology (IT) industries are being established in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts. With proper power supply, these two districts can emerge as the second `Silicon Valley' in the State. The establishment of a power project by the NPCL would give a boost to both the industrial and agricultural sectors. The Government should also see to it that these industries adopt technologies that are not harmful to the environment, the release added.
