NEW DELHI: Delhi High Court Chief Justice Babulal Chandulal Patel was on Friday accorded a warm ceremonial send-off by the judges and staff of the court before his superannuation on Sunday. Justice Patel would be retiring after attaining the age of 62 on August 7. The ceremonial send-off was organised on Friday as August 7 is a Sunday. He was admistered the oath of office as Chief Justice of the High Court in Delhi on March 5, 2003. He was transferred from J&K High Court.
Landmark judgments
Widely described as an upright and honest Judge, Mr. Justice Patel has delivered many landmark judgments to remove encroachments from public places, historic monuments and getting rid of the Capital's roads of stray cattle. He was elevated to the Gujarat High Court bench on June 21, 1990. As a Judge of the Gujarat High Court he delivered landmark judgments, particularly on town planning and building activities in urban areas. The celebrated judgments delivered by him paved the way for removal of encroachments for public places and installation of safety devices in high-rise buildings. Born on August 7, 1943, in Ahmedabad, he obtained his LLB and M.A. from Gujarat University in the 1960s.
