Convincing communication is the key

Staff Reporter

`Efficient and well-informed PR personnel are the need of hour'

HYDERABAD: The field of Public Relations (PR) has become challenging with information reaching people instantly through satellite television channels and internet and the onus is on PR personnel to function with greater responsibility, suggests S. Venkat Narayan, Asia Bureau Chief of the British TV channel, Independent Television News.

Delivering his keynote address at the national convention on `Corporate Communications' organised by the Pubic Relations Council of India here on Friday, Mr. Venkat Narayan said that PR was an important aspect of communication for promoting a good image of organisations and individuals.

But, that did not mean PR personnel could hide negative developments from public view. "It is important for PR men to be alert all the time with TV channels beaming events as they happen and the visuals sending out a powerful message." It was not enough to project the company head's image, but they should understand the organisation in depth and world at large to ensure convincing communication, he said.

He also underlined the need for quality training in public relations in universities. Governing Council Chairman M.B. Jayaram and R. Neelamegham, Vice-Chairman, PRCI National Council, spoke.
