Sahara (English) Cast: Matthew McConaughey, Penelope Cruz, Steve Zahn Director: Breck Eisner After Batman Returns, which starred Tom Cruise girlfriend Katie Holmes and War of the Worlds which starred Cruise himself, we have Sahara which stars Penelope Cruz, who was Cruise ex-girlfriend alongside Matthew McConaughey who apparently is seeing Cruz now. All we need is a release starring Cruise ex-wife Nicole Kidman to complete the family picture! Coming to the film, based on a novel by Clive Cussller who incidentally was so incensed by the script that he has sued Paramount, it is delightfully brainless. There is Penelope who is a doctor for the WHO, McConaughey plays some sort of naval treasure hunter. There is also William H. Macy as a retired Admiral, Delroy Lindo and Christopher Lambert who continues his evil French zillionaire act from the Matrix movies. The film pushes many envelopes of believability but who cares? McConaughey looks wonderfully toned and muscled - so what if he has a bee in his bonnet about a 150-year-old battleship that ran aground in the Sahara? How did a ship land in the Sahara - don't even ask! Steve Zahn follows all the sidekick movie conventions faithfully and has a blast.
Touch of Bond
Hey, there are James Bond moments and Indiana Jones flashes with world going to be destroyed and helicopters flying dangerously low and all that. Bottom line - great fun. It sure is nice to have the world saved by good-looking people with good exit lines.
