Bank to train unemployed youth

Those between 18-35 years are eligible for the programme

ADILABAD: Executive Director of Andhra Bank R. Balakrishnan on Saturday assured to extend the bank's rural self-employment generation training programmes to backward districts.

He said, wherever there were no Rural Development Training Institutes like in Adilabad, trainees would be sent to the nearest institute.

Mr. Balakrishnan said unemployed persons between 18 and 35 years were eligible to apply for the training course. Training would be imparted in small trades like TV repair, house repair, embroidery and a host of other activities.

Besides, the Bank would fund the post-training activities and also keep a track of the progress made by the beneficiaries, he added.

Crop loans

At the bank's customers' meet here, General Manager and Convenor of State Level Bankers' Committee A.L. Nageswara Rao said that 55,000 farmers, mostly tenants, would be given crop loans through respective rythu mitra groups on August 15, 16 and 17. Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy would participate in the programme to give away the loans through various banks, he said.

About the loaning in kharif season, he said, as against a target of Rs. 8,650 crores, over Rs. 4,000 crores was advanced and the remaining amount would be disbursed by August 25.

Adilabad MLA C. Ramchander Reddy, Andhra Bank Deputy General Manager G.D.V. Prasada Rao and Adilabad branch Chief Manager Gopalakrishna were also present.
