BANGALORE: The State unit of the BJP has announced that it is prepared to form the non-Congress Government along with the Janata Dal (Secular). At a hurriedly convened press conference after the conclusion of a marathon closed-door meeting held by the party's General Secretary, H.N. Ananth Kumar, at an unspecified venue here on Friday, the State unit President of the party, Jagadish Shettar, claimed that the coalition Government may fall at any moment and the party is fully geared to form the government. Asked whether the party has approached the Janata Dal (S) President, H.D. Deve Gowda, or the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, B.S. Yediyurappa, held talks with the Working President of the State unit of the Janata Dal (S), H. D. Kumaraswamy, Mr. Shettar replied in the negative.
`Not desperate'
Asked whether the BJP is desperate to come to power, the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, D.H. Shankaramurthy, said: "We are not desperate. We are just responding to the situation."
Mr. Yediyurappa told The Hindu that party leaders such as M. Venkaiah Naidu and Ved Prakash Goyal, will discuss the chances of forming a government with the Janata Dal (S). Mr. Yediyurappa said that he is attending the BJP Legislature Party meeting scheduled to be held on Sunday. Mr. Goyal said that Mr. Ananth Kumar is consulting party legislators for their opinion. Mr. Yediyurappa met Mr. Goyal late in the night and discussed the latest developments with him.
