Power shutdown

There will be no power supply between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sunday under Dabagardens and Civil Defence feeders due to taking up maintenance work.

The areas affected will be Dabagardens main road, Pidaparthivari Veedhi, Prema Samajam area, Dabagardens 75 feet road, Dolphin Junction, Saraswathi Junction and Surya Bagh.

Exemption to shops

Exemption is given to shops for keeping open up to 9.30 p.m. during evenings and also on holidays in connection with Varalakshmi Vratham from August 7 to 12, and on account of Sravana Poornima from August 13 to 19 (with the exception of August 15 Independence Day), according Deputy Commissioner of Labour, M. Narasimha Varahala Reddy. The exemption is subject to conditions such as payment of overtime wages and availing of compensatory offs in accordance with labour laws, and would be applicable only to the city, he said.

Friendship Day

Friendship Day will be organised at Green Park's Meadows Lawns on Sunday from 7 p.m. with a lavish multi-cuisine buffet of non-vegetarian and vegetarian delicacies along with kebabs, chat counter and dosa counter across the lawns. The Pagoda space of the lawns will be converted into a dance floor with the live band `Rhythm and Taal' in attendance, according to resident manager of the hotel K. Mohan Krishna.

Students of Sloka School tied friendship bands to the students of BC Hostel for Boys on Saturday. The school sponsored the bands and sweets on the occasion of Friendship Day.

Sravanalakshmi puja

Sravanalakshmi puja was performed with fervour at the Sri Kanakamahalakshmi temple on the first day of Sravanamasam on Saturday.

Visakhapatnam-I MLA Dronamraju Satyanarayana inaugurated the Sravanamasam celebrations at the temple by participating in the special puja along with temple trust board chairman Vankayala Sanyasiraju, other trustees, and the executive officer of the temple and Deputy Commissioner of Endowments S. Kondala Rao. Special pujas would be performed daily from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. during the entire month.

ZPP meet

The general meeting of Zilla Praja Parishad will be held at the ZP Hall on Sunday from 11 a.m.
