KURNOOL: The flood situation is likely to ease by Monday in the villages along the Tungabhadra river, as the discharge had come down drastically at Tungabhadra dam on Sunday. According to reports, the dam was discharging only 35,916 cusecs today. However, the flow at Mantralayam remained at 96,000 cusecs, which was likely to decline by Monday. The heavy flow of flood on Saturday caused damage to crops in 1,200 hectares in Kosigi and Kautalam mandals. The loss was estimated at Rs. 50 lakhs. Hundreds of electric pumpsets were submerged in the floodwaters. The flood flow at Sunkesula also was around 95,000 cusecs. Meanwhile, the Srisailam reservoir continued to receive over seven lakh cusecs on Sunday also and discharged 6,71,879 cusecs into the river. Power stations used 67,579 cusecs and the SRMC 11,000 cusecs.
Subsidised seed sought
The Zilla Parishad general body meeting, which met here on Sunday, urged the Government to supply sunflower and Bengalgram seed at subsidised price to help farmers who lost crop in the floods.
