Pink card eludes many

People asked to contact DPL centres for declaration forms

  • Pink card made essential for delivery of LPG
  • DPL centres opened at 35 places in the city
  • The centres to be open for some more days to cover existing cardholders

VIJAYAWADA: Many people are yet to get pink ration cards and they are said to have not received the declaration forms from NSS volunteers.

The district administration has advised these people to contact respective Designated Photography Locations (DPLs) before August 10. DPL staff will give them declaration forms, which have to be filled with details about family members, income of the head of the family and monthly electricity consumption.

Though there has been a heavy rush for white ration cards, those in high-income groups have not shown much interest to get pink cards. Some people have got declaration forms delivered at their doorsteps, but they are not utilising the service on the plea that there is no point in waiting for long hours at the issuing centres. Some have not received the declaration forms at all. However, even the high-income groups are now seeking pink cards with the district administration making it necessary for delivery of LPG. Every consumer will have to provide his or her ration card number while placing a request for LPG.

    Documents required

DPLs are opened at 35 places in the city as against 47 in the district. While going to the DPL centres, people should take their electricity bill, telephone bill, LPG gas connection consumer book and documents relating to their proof of residence and date of birth. Electricity bill and LPG gas slip are made mandatory and customers can show these documents even if they are not in their names.

Distribution of declaration forms by NSS and other volunteers has been completed a few days ago. Visits by these volunteers to deliver the forms are taken as an inquiry by itself with regard to pink cardholders. But with regard to white cards, a multiple inquiry has been conducted before issuing of the cards is taken up.

Officials say that DPL centres will remain open for some more days beyond August 10 in order to cover existing cardholders. If consumers submit their old cards, they will be issued new cards at the DPL centres. The family members should have to go to the DPL centres compulsorily as their iris identification and photographs have to be taken for issuing the cards.

Officials have issued more number of white cards in the current drive with the Government increasing annual income limit from Rs. 11,000 to Rs. 24,000 for issuing these cards. Those already having white cards can also replace them with new ones at the DPLs from August 10.
