`Declare sanitary emergency'

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Chamber has demanded clamping of sanitary emergency in Visakhapatnam district and Nallamala forests in view of many deaths of tribals due to viral fever.

Y. Babu Rajendraprasad, chairman of the chamber, in a statement on Sunday said the emergency should pave the way for provision of clean drinking water in tankers besides better roads and drains in the affected areas.

He demanded supply of lime bags, bleaching powder, fogging machines, hand/power sprayers and phenyl to each gram panchayat in the agency areas.

Four sanitary staff members and a panchayat raj official should be deputed on special duty to enforce the emergency.

An amount of Rs.50,000 should be sanctioned for each gram panchayat, he said.
