157 cases registered during tenant verification drive

NEW DELHI: As part of its tenant verification drive, Delhi Police has registered 157 cases against tenants, landlords and property dealers here for not intimating it about new tenants.

This follows prohibitory orders issued by Delhi Police Commissioner K K Paul in June this year making verification of new tenants compulsory with a view to maintain peace and tranquility in the capital.

The order made tenants as well as landlords and property dealers responsible for intimating the local police whenever any accomodation is rented out.

SHOs had also been directed to ensure that intimation about new tenants was made available to them.

So far 1,11,640 tenants had been verified by the police in the city and 157 cases registered for violating the order.

The largest number of cases was registered in North-West District where 84 cases of non-furnishing of tenants' particulars to the police were detected.

Fifty three such cases were registered in North-East District while 16 in South District and two each in North and South-West Districts, police said.

The police verified 11,904 tenants in East, 29,313 in North-East, 344 in New Delhi, 2,331 in Central, 26,642 in North, 7,573 in North West, 22,347 in South, 7,206 in South- West and 3,980 in West Districts.
