TIRUPATI: : The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams is considering setting up a `Divya Kshethram' in Chennai for the benefit of devotees who constitute the bulk of pilgrims visiting the hill temple of Lord Venkateswara. Official sources said the TTD planned to set up the complex on a 10-acre site in the city. TTD Executive Officer A.P.V. Narayana Sarma and his deputy N. Mukteswara Rao called on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in her office on Wednesday and discussed the subject with her. According to the team, the complex would comprise a Lord Venkateswara temple, a `mandapam' to perform Kalyanothsavam, a marriage hall and an information centre similar to the one now functioning from a small TTD premises at T. Nagar. The information centre housing a temple and an on-line ticketing counter have, of late, been throbbing with activity. It has become too crammed to meet the needs of devotees, who book tickets on-line for darshan in the Tirumala temple and accommodation. It is to address this problem that the TTD has come up with its proposal. According to a team member, the Chief Minister was receptive to the idea, but expressed doubts over the availability of such a vast chunk of land in the heart of the city. Ms. Jayalalithaa, however, promised the team that she would get back in a week. Mr. Sarma presented to Ms. Jayalalithaa an audio-cassette album produced by the TTD's Recording Project on Alwars' Divya Prabahdham. The TTD also offered to donate to the Tamil Nadu Government 108 sets of the album comprising 72 cassettes for free distribution to the Divya Kshethrams in the State.
