TIPS FOR INTERVIEW: Job aspirants get counselling in Pondicherry on Monday. Photo : T. Singaravelou
PONDICHERRY: It was a call that alumni of Bharathidasan Government College for Women never expected. Many students who had passed out way back in 2001 were surprised when suddenly told to come to the college on Monday for a campus interview by HCL BPO Limited for call centre jobs. Gokula Devi, who had passed out in 2003 and has been shortlisted by HCL BPO Limited said, "The call came at a time when I was badly in need of a job". Her college mate Sathya said, "We never expected the college to ever think about former students". Sathya passed out last year after completing her Masters in Commerce and is now working with an auditor. "I cannot express the joy I felt when the college intimated me about the interview, that too in a happening sector. I am very confident of clearing the final round," said Sathya. Most of the students who attended the interview expressed similar sentiments. "This is the first time that the company is recruiting students from a government college for call centre jobs. The performance of the students was reasonably good," said Sathish, in-charge of the recruitment, HCL BPO Ltd. Today the students were tested for their basic command over English, communication and computer skills. "Eight students have been short-listed out of 150 and at least six of them are very good and should get the nod after the final interview," said Satish. Those selected could earn more than Rs.10,000 a month.
