Remembering the `good old days'

The convocation ceremony of the 43rd batch of the Kozhikode Medical College held on its campus last week was an occasion for retired and senior members of the faculty to remember their good old days during their teaching career.

M. Balaraman Nair, who administered the hippocratic oath to the medical graduates, reminisced how he raised the college garden by planting some saplings he brought from his house.

That was in the early 1970s when he joined as Professor of Pathology.

Later he became the Principal. He also had a stint as Director of Medical Education and is now president of the State Medical Council.

M. R. Chandran, former principal and former DME, who inaugurated the convocation ceremony, fondly remembered how 30 years ago Dr. Nair taught him to do a perfect autopsy and present facts in a court of law. Dr. Nair had also taught Forensic Medicine.

Meenu Hariharan, DME, said that students of the Government Medical College were more humane than their counterparts at the private medical college since the former were aware of the suffering of the common masses.
