ATR an eyewash, say protesters

NEW DELHI: Rejecting the Union Government's Action Taken Report on the Nanavati Commission submissions, a large number of people, including the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, protested in the Capital on Tuesday. They burnt copies of the ATR.

Demanding severe action against all those found guilty in the Nanavati report, including the two Congress Members of Parliament, Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish Tytler, people gathered at Jantar Mantar shouting slogans against the Congress and the United Progressive Alliance Government for shielding the culprits.

The demonstrators, who assembled under the banner of the All-India Sikh Conference (Babbar), termed the ATR an eyewash and said that for the past 21 years riot victims and the Sikh community had been hoping for some justice, but the successive Governments betrayed them.

"Anti-Sikh riot victims will never get justice and criminals will continue to roam free. The ATR has made it very clear that the Government is in on mood to penalise rioters. Forget justice, several Sikhs are still living as refugees in Delhi and waiting for rehabilitation. At least the Government should take care of them," the Conference head, G.S. Babbar, said.
