THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Thiruvananthapuram District Expatriates Association (TEXAS), an organisation of over 1,000 non-resident Keralites hailing from the district, has expressed its willingness to extend financial support to development projects being undertaken by the Government for the capital district. Disclosing this at a press conference here on Tuesday, TEXAS president K.K. Nazar and advisor Najith said the Government, instead of carrying out cosmetic changes in the capital to cater to the needs of the citizens, should take the initiative for setting up a well planned city in the suburbs. TEXAS said the development of the transhipment container terminal at Vizhinjam should be on the lines of the development of the Cochin International Airport Ltd. (CIAL) at Nedumbassery. The development of the port would give a boost to overall development of the capital. The association stated that it was ready to take shares if the development of the port was taken up by the Government on the lines of CIAL, Mr. Nazar said. The association also has plans to set up training centres with the assistance of the Government to train those going abroad seeking employment. The association has also set up a committee headed by chairman of Pollution Control Board G. Rajmohan to extend possible help for those willing to start industries in the State.
