Monorail for Goa

Staff Correspondent

PANAJI: The Goa Government will invite expressions of interest for setting up a monorail system on a build, own, operate and transfer basis.

This resolution was passed at a Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Pratap Singh Rane told reporters here. The system would connect the main cities — Mapusa, Panaji and Margao — in the first phase. It would be on the lines of the systems in Malaysia and Thailand.

The successful bidder would get 18 months to complete the project. The Government would have no stake in the venture. However, a pre-condition would be that the fares should not be higher than bus ticket and the system should operate on CNG.
