PONDICHERRY: The Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, has asked the officials of government departments to ensure that the plans and programmes particularly those meant for the poor and the have-nots were implemented fast. Presiding over the meeting held here on Tuesday to review the expenditure incurred in implementation of various plans during the first quarter of the current annual plan (2005-2006) and also execution of the proposals announced at the last budget session of the Territorial Assembly, the Chief Minister said that focused attention should be given to take up tsunami-related works and the entire allocation for tsunami relief and rehabilitation programmes should be spent without loss of time. Among those who participated in the review meeting included the Local Administration Minister, A. Elumalai, the Agriculture Minister, A. Namassivayam, the Chief Secretary, C.S. Khairwal, and other officials. A release from the Director of Planning and Research Department, M. Sreedharan, said at the end of the meeting that the Union Territory Administration had spent Rs 614.09 crores last year (2004-2005) as against the approved outlay of Rs 615 crores which worked out to 99.85 percent.
Action plan
The Administration had spent Rs 165.32 crores as on July 31 this year out of approved outlay of Rs 810 crores for the current annual plan working out to 20.41 per cent of fund utilisation. An action plan had already been finalised for the current year. Urging the department to speed up pace of plan implementation so as to utilise 85 per cent of the plan outlay by December his year, the Chief Minister who is also in charge of Finance said that Heads of Departments should be personally accountable to achieve the goal set for their departments.
