Activists block tanker lorries

Kochi: Activists of the Wellingdon Island Action Council blocked tanker lorries here on Tuesday, demanding that the order issued by the District Collector asking the Cochin Port Trust to stop work on petroleum storage tanks at Vathuruthy be implemented at the earliest. The council members will lay a siege to the port on August 22 to press their demand. The District Collector had sought a report from the trust regarding the safety of the tanks being constructed south of Vathuruthy. — Staff Reporter

Power supply to be disrupted

Kochi: Power supply to Kumaranasan Nagar and Gandhinagar will be affected from 9.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday owing to maintenance work, according to a communication from Girinagar electrical section. — Staff Reporter

Weapons found in baggage

NEDUMBASSERY: The Customs wing at the Cochin International Airport on Tuesday found weapons from the baggage of a passenger who had returned from the United States last month. One pistol, an air gun and a bow and arrow were found from the baggage. A resident of Kottayam, the passenger had returned to Kerala on July 31, but his registered baggage took a week's time to reach here. — A Correspondent

Electricity bill payment

Kochi: Electricity bills will be accepted at all offices of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) on Saturday, according to Chief Engineer (Distribution), Ernakulam Central. — Staff Reporter

Passports issued

Kochi: The Regional Passport office has processed and issued passports for applications received till June 29. Passports have been despatched in the week ending August 5, said the Regional Passport Officer. — Staff Reporter

Cultural exchange

KOCHI : Members of `Humming Birds', the choir of the Toc-H Public School, will visit the Al Ameen Public School here on Thursday, as part of a cultural exchange programme.
