PONDICHERRY: Show respect to pedestrians, two-wheeler and three-wheeler riders and strictly adhere to traffic rules was the message for private bus drivers who attended an awareness programme organised by the traffic police on Tuesday night. About 60 drivers, after the schedule, attended the programme held inside the bus stand. "Life is precious and you can save many lives", was the message. The programme was conducted in the wake of many accidents involving private buses, especially along the Cuddalore and Villupuram Road. During the last few month's, five fatal accidents involving the private buses occurred in the region, said G Vijayasundaram, SP, Traffic."Most of the accidents occur due to over speed or reckless driving. They spend most of the time inside the bus stand and town and to adjust the lost time they speed up en-route to Cuddalore and Villupuram. We asked them not to waste their time in the bus stand area", he told The Hindu . A majority of the accidents occur at Kannikoyil area along the Cuddalore route. The victims are most of the time pedestrians, cyclists and two-wheeler riders.
