New DG of Forests

NEW DELHI:
J.C. Kala, an Indian Forest Service officer of 1968 batch from Tamil Nadu, took over as Director-General of Forests and Special Secretary in the Union Environment and Forests Ministry on Monday.
Prior to this, Mr. Kala was the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests in Tamil Nadu for four years. He also served in the Environment and Forests Ministry as Joint-Secretary in-charge of river conservation programmes, pollution control and management of hazardous substances.
Also having served as Deputy Inspector General in the Ministry, Mr. Kala was instrumental in formulating the National Forestry Action Plan.
He also looked after the externally aided projects in the country.
