dated August 12, 1955: Goa: PM confers with MPs

Prime Minister Nehru discussed in New Delhi on August 10 the Goa situation with Members of Parliament who are on the informal consultative committee for the External Affairs Ministry. It is not known what the Portuguese Government's reaction will be to the entry into Goa early next week of a number of satyagrahis, including MPs, leaders of various political groups and some veteran Congressmen. If, however, there is to be a repetition of the recent incident in which two unarmed satyagrahis were shot dead, observers believe that prompt retaliatory measures by New Delhi could be expected.
