CHENNAI:
: Employees of 43 branches of the Tamil Nadu State Apex Cooperative (TNSC) Bank here went on a flash strike on Thursday, protesting the arrest of former senior officials of the bank.
A general manger, chief manager, additional general manger and assistant manager (all retired) were arrested on Wednesday for alleged violation of rules and regulations in sanctioning a Rs. 1 crore loan to a city-based travel agency.
Dharna staged
The employees staged "dharna" in front of the head-office, demanding their immediate release.
P. Balakrishnan, general secretary, Tamil Nadu Cooperative Bank Employees Association, told reporters that the loan was sanctioned by the previous elected Board of Management, and the arrested employees had no role. The Registrar of Cooperative Societies and the bank management were not willing to intervene.
He said the employees would stage "dharna" here on August 18 and, if their demands were not conceded, cooperative bank employees and members the Tamil Nadu Bank Employees Federation would go on a State-wide strike.
