Rights panel to look into Vineeta Kottai issue

Staff Reporter

KOZHIKODE: The State Human Rights Commission will hear two petitions filed in connection with the alleged human rights violation faced by the Kuttiadi resident Vineeta Kottai.

The decision was taken at a sitting of the commission here on Thursday. Chairman of the panel V.P. Mohan Kumar presided over the sitting. One of the petitions was filed by P.T. Thomas, MLA, alleging that Ms. Kottai had been subjected to human rights violations. In the other petition, E.C. Narayani has alleged that she and her family were subjected to harassment by Ms. Kottai by filing of several cases against them.

(Ms. Kottai, who had been ostracised after a labour dispute on her agricultural land some time ago, had been reportedly attacked by anti-social elements. She had undergone treatment in Kozhikode Medical College Hospital.) In another case, the panel wanted a report from the Railway Divisional Manager on a complaint filed by women commuters that the railway station superintendent refused to allow them to use the toilet at the Feroke Railway Station and had behaved rudely with them.

The commission also examined a complaint filed by a temporary woman employee of the STED project that the managing director had misbehaved with her and had dismissed her from service.
