GUNTUR: The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will soon roll out value added services from all its cell towers in Guntur district with upgradation of technology. The district will be one of the first to switchover to Nortel technology in the coastal districts. The BSNL has 30 cell sites currently functioning in Guntur district, but only a few of them can support the WAP and GPRS value-added services being offered by the company. The hardware for the towers, switches, software and other equipment supplied by Motorola cannot support these Internet-based services through all the towers. Only the Ashok Nagar and Kothapeta towers support the technology in Guntur city out of the 12 sites commissioned here. By the third week of August, another 15 cell sites would be commissioned and all the existing ones replaced by the hardware of Canada-based Nortel. Entire GSM-based cell tower technology in Guntur district will switchover from Motorola to Nortel in next two weeks and under the expansion plans. Forty-eight new towers would be commissioned within this year.
Seamless connectivity
With the commissioning of these towers by third week there will be a seamless connectivity between Guntur and Vijayawada; and Guntur and Tenali.
