Staff Correspondent

Bidar: Fifteen per cent of the crops have been damaged owing to excessive rainfall in Bidar district, chief executive office of the zilla panchayat Antony Mendonca said on Wednesday.

During a Karnataka Development Programme review meeting here, he said sowing had been completed in over 85 per cent of targeted land. Around 60 per cent of the target was achieved in Chemical fertilizers supply, he said.

The gram panchayats have been directed to take steps to clean waste dumping pits to check the spread of epidemics. Action will be initiated against officials who fail to comply with the directions. Individuals who maintain compost pits will also be asked to empty them, Mr. Mendonca said.

Mr. Mendonca directed the officials of the gram panchayats and city municipal council to protect the trees in their areas.

He also said recognition will be cancelled for schools that had obtained permission for Kannada medium and were teaching in English medium.
