Wasteland to be developed

ERODE: During this year, 7,000 hectares of wasteland in the district would be developed and would be handed over to the farmers and for each hectare, Rs. 8,500 would be given as subsidy for development, said the District Collector, D. Karthikeyan, at Ayyampalayam near Bhavanisagar during a mass contact day meet on Wednesday.

The Collector received 158 petitions and distributed welfare assistance worth Rs. 10 lakhs to 210 persons. The construction of a bridge across Bhavani canal connecting Uthandiyur and Vaikkalpudur was in progress at a cost of Rs. 2.25 lakhs and would be completed soon. Self-help groups were functioning efficiently in the district, he said.The Bhavanisagar MLA, P. Chidambaram, the District Panchayat Chairman, V.K. Chinnasamy and others participated.
