Gram Sabha meetings to focus on poverty removal

Panchayat chiefs will place expenditure details

ERODE: Gram Sabha meetings would be conducted in 343 village panchayats on August 15, said the Collector, D. Karthikeyan, on Thursday.

A press release said that every year Gram Sabha meetings were conducted on Republic Day, May Day, Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanthi Day.

Poverty alleviation programmes would be discussed in detail in the meetings and schemes would be planned for the development of villages. Panchayat presidents would place expenditure details and project reports in the meetings.

The meetings will discuss in detail village development programmes. `Our Village' concept should be discussed and suggestions to make each village a model one had to be sought.

Observers nominated

Observers had been nominated to monitor the meetings. Accordingly, the District Revenue Officer, V. Santha, will be observer for meetings conducted by the village panchayats in Erode, Modakurichi and Kodumudi panchayat unions; the Project Officer, Women Development, N. Rajam, will be in charge for Perundurai, Chennimalai and Uthukuli unions; the Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency, R. Rajashree, will be in charge of Ammapet, Anthiyur and Bhavani unions; the Joint Registrar of Cooperatives, B. Joghee, will be the observer for Kangeyam, Vellakoil and Moolanure PUs; the JD of Animal Husbandry, Arunachalam, will be in charge for Dharapuram and Kundadam; the JD, Agriculture, T.S.R. Ramakrishnan, will be in charge for Gobichettipalayam, Nambiyur and Thookanaickken Palayam and the Principal, Rural Extension Training Institute, Jayalakhsmi, will be in charge of Sathyamangalam, Bavanisagar and Thalawady.
