While the big screen might be turning the First War of Independence into "reel", the small stage is concentrating on the man who managed to make freedom a reality. An evening to hear stories about the freedom struggle that are never part of history books, Habitat World is giving viewers to relive the fight through letters from the Mahatma to one of his favourite women. An up-close and personal look at its prime leaders, "Mahatma and the Poetess" will trace their relationship through the letters they wrote to each other from 1914 when Sarojini Naidu met the Mahatma, till his death in 1948. Better known as the Nightingale of India, Sarojini Naidu's life changed after she met the Mahatma. Throwing herself completely into the freedom movement after her meeting, she became one of the most visible faces of the movement Starring Mrinalini V. Sarabhai and Tom Alter, it promises to be an interesting show. And with Tom Alter reading out Gandhi's part, it will certainly be worth watching. Less than an hour in duration, the play will bring out their tales of struggle and the warm relationship between the Mahatma and his poetess. The play will be staged at India Habitat Centre in New Delhi this coming Tuesday, August 16, at 7 p.m. There are limited passes available at the reception. -- Mandira Nayar
