Assets to be given to 2.8 lakh poor families

2.8 lakh families will benefit from Indira Kranthi Patham

HYDERABAD: As many as 2.8 lakh poor families in the State will secure income-generating assets worth Rs.280 crores in 2005-06 under the Indira Kranthi Patham.

About 1.4 lakh SCs, 28,000 STs and 92,000 BCs and others have benefited under the programme, the Chief Minister, Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy, was told by officials at a review of the programmes taken up by the Rural Development Department on Wednesday. According to a press release issued by the CMO, Dr. Reddy directed officials to train maximum number of people in collective marketing. About 5,000 community leaders are now being trained. About 1,500 procurement centres will be operational with adequate infrastructure. About 1,000 community members will be trained in record keeping.

Officials said village organisations procured 1.8 quintals of commodities during 2004-05.

Their total turnover reached Rs.16.8 crores this year.
