State to organise crop loan melas

Tenant farmers can get loans via rythu mithra groups

HYDERABAD: The Government will organise "crop loan melas" between August 15 and 17 all over the State to help farmers for the kharif season. The loan requirements of tenant farmers can be met through "rythu mithra" groups.

The Department of Agriculture said in a press release that 80 per cent sowing was over, spanning an area of 62.82 lakh hectares.

They include paddy in 12.26 lakh hectares, constituting 52 per cent had been planted as against the normal of 23.73 lakh hectares. Dry crops were sown in 48.24 lakh hectares (91 per cent) against a normal of 52.73 lakh hectares. About 4.82 lakh quintals of subsidy seed had been positioned in the districts through Government agencies, of which 4.35 lakh quintals were distributed.

Monsoon record

The deviation in rainfall during the South-West monsoon between June 1 and August 10 was minus five per cent. While Anantapur, Adilabad and Hyderabad districts recorded excess rainfall of plus 20 per cent and above, 15 districtsreceived normal rainfall.
