KOLKATA:
Leela Bhattacharjee, mother of West Bengal Chief Minister, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, passed away at a government hospital here on Thursday. She was 83. The end came shortly after noon when she suffered a massive heart attack.
Shehad been admitted to the SSKM Hospital on August 3 with acute pneumonia. The Chief Minister reached the hospital immediately on hearing the news. He was joined by Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh called up Mr. Bhattacharjee and expressed his condolences. Among those who also conveyed their condolences were the former West Bengal Chief Minister, Jyoti Basu, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee and Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee.
