TIRUPATI: The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy is said to be keen on making the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) take over the now defunct Chittoor Co-op dairy to provide succour to thousands of farmers engaged in the sector in Chittoor district. He is said to have given assurance to the district leaders of the Federation of Farmers Associations who called on him on Thursday in Hyderabad. In a memorandum to Dr. Reddy, the Federation leaders also sought to remind him of the promise he made to the dairy farmers during his last visit to the district that the Government would ensure a minimum procurement price of Rs.9.50 per litre. They informed Dr. Reddy that in the absence of the G.O. the private dairies continued to pay a paltry Rs.6.50 per litre to the farmers.
