Activists of the Nilgris district unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam on Thursday staged dharna near the Central station demanding a minimum price of Rs.15 per kg for green tea leaves.
It was inaugurated by the CPI (M) State secretary N. Varadarajan.
The activists raised slogans urging the State Government to pressure the Centre to fix an enhanced procurement price for green tea leaves, as subsidy on green leaves was not be a lasting solution to the problem.
They sought fixing the minimum procurement price of tea leaves at Rs.15 per kg for the members of the State cooperative tea units in the Nilgris.
In a memorandum to the Chief Minister, CPI (M) district secretary N.
