Sasikiran in joint lead

NEW DELHI: Top seed K. Sasikiran stretched his winning sequence to four games following a 46-move defeat of overnight leader Israel's Ilya Khmelniker in the sixth round of Hogeschool Zeeland chess tournament in Vlissingen, Holland, on Wednesday.

Sasikiran now shares the lead with Russian Grandmaster Konstantin Landa at 5.5 points. Fourteen players follow the leaders at five points.

Kidambi is fifth

S. Kidambi signed off his campaign with a 11th-round victory over Germany's Marco Thinius and finished fifth with 5.5 points in the Valoz Cup chess tournament at Olomouc, Czech Republic on Thursday.

In the Proclient Cup, Tejas Bakre defeated Czech Jiri Jirka to take the fifth spot with six points. D.V. Prasad finished seventh with 5.5 points.

In the Olomouc Open, Eesha Karavade, S. Satyapragyan, Tania Sachdev and M. R. Venkatesh scored 6.5 points each from nine rounds to finish eighth, 11th, 12th and 13th, in that order. Rahul Shetty and Poobesh Anand scored six points each and took the 17th and 25th spots, respectively.
