Bangalore: President of the All-India Congress Committee and Chairman of the United Progressive Alliance Sonia Gandhi will visit the flood-affected Athani taluk of Belgaum District on Saturday. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who was to conduct an aerial survey of the flood-affected regions, has put off his visit. Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President Mallikarjuna Kharge told The Hindu that Chief Minister Dharam Singh and he will be at Athani to meet Ms. Gandhi and impress the need for special assistance to combat the problem. Ms Gandhi will also conduct an aerial survey of the flood-affected regions along the Karnataka-Maharashtra border. The Chief Minister and Mr. Kharge will later fly to Gulbarga to attend a district Congress workers' convention.
