Contrasting wins
Dakshina Kannada and Mysore Districts posted contrasting victories in group B fixtures of the inter-district football tournament conducted by the Karnataka State Football Association. At the Football stadium here on Thursday, while Dakshina Kannada was at its fluent best and won 4-1 against a ragged Kodugu, the once famed Mysore District frittered away chances galore and even survived a few scares in recording a 1-0 win over Shimoga. Mysore managed to break the deadlock in the 42nd minute through a Rozario strike. Both teams had its chances of scoring but hasty attempts proved their undoing. For Dakshina Kannada Shahnaz opened the account in the 21st minute and Nishanth made it 2-0 at half-time. Kodagu pulled one back when Srinivasa converted a penalty after stopper Hakeem had felled Chandra inside the box in the 65th minute. But this setback did not deter the Dakshina Kannada lads who struck twice late in the match to seal a fine win.
