CHENNAI: Karun Chandhok is ineligible to represent India for the A1 GP races promoted by Sheikh Hasher Maktoum Al Maktoum of Dubai, according to Nazir Hoosein, President, Motorsports Association of India (MAI). Responding to reports indicating that Karun Chandhok would represent India in the AI GP, Mr. Nazir Hoosein, in a press release says, "At the moment Karun Chandhok pursues his career using an MSA licence. The MSA is the ASN of the FIA for Great Britain. At the beginning of the this year the MSA had written to Karun to state that neither they nor the MAI had any difficulty with Karun pursuing his career with a licence of either ASN (as he is currently resides in England) but the provisions under the code would have to be followed especially as regards nationality if he opted for an MSA licence." Mr. Hoosein states that under the FIA code, "the nationality of the driver (other than for World Championships) is the nationality of his licence. Karun is therefore currently a British national for motor sport purposes and consequently not eligible to represent India in the A1 Grand Prix."
