BJP leader criticises TDP, Congress' stand on quota

Correspondent

`It will lead to disastrous consequences'

Indrasena Reddy

KAKINADA: The State Bharatiya Janata Party president N. Indrasena Reddy has lashed out at the Congress and the Telugu Desam for favouring reservations based on religion only to woo Muslim voters, unmindful of the consequences and its long ranging affect on the country.

At a press conference here on Thursday, he said that the Supreme Court's latest judgment making it clear that reservations based on religion should not be given, clearly vindicated their stand.

"The TDP offered 3 per cent and the Congress 5 per cent reservation for Muslims. The TDP is going one step ahead saying that it was ready to give political reservation for Muslims. All this would lead to disastrous consequences. We don't want the country to be disintegrated by such religious reservations and will oppose them tooth and nail," he asserted.

Oil exploration

On oil exploration taken up by the Gujarat Petroleum Corporation off Kakinada coast, Mr. Indrasena Reddy alleged that the Government was trying to politicise the issue as BJP Government was there in Gujarat. He said that the Gujarat Petroleum Corporation had secured the permission in open auctions and taken up the hydrocarbons exploration.

"What prevented the State Government from creating a corporation to take up oil exploration on the lines of others, including the ONGC, Reliance and Cairne energy. There is no point in blaming others for our weaknesses," he said.

Explaining the party's stand on municipal elections, he made it clear that the BJP would contest all the seats in all municipalities and corporations on its own.
