Sri Lanka closes in on Australia

Dubai: By winning the home tri-series involving India and West Indies, former World champion Sri Lanka closed the gap on Australia at the top of the LG ICC ODI Championship to 15 points.

India's defeat in the final meant it missed out on an opportunity to close in on sixth-placed England. India has, however, gained one point and remains seventh with a rating of 96 points.

In the ODI player rankings, Irfan Pathan and Ashish Nehra have climbed into the top 20, reaching their best ever official rankings. Pathan has climbed 10 places to 13th, while Nehra is up 18 places to 15th. These two are now India's highest ranked one-day bowlers.

The rankings: 1. Australia 136, 2. Sri Lanka 121, 3. Pakistan 116, 4. New Zealand 116, 5. South Africa 111, 6. England 109, 7. India 96, 8. West Indies 90, 9. Zimbabwe 46, 10. Bangladesh 15. — UNI
